tanabata

"Tanabata (七夕, tanabata), meaning "Seven Evenings") is a Japanese star festival, derived from Obon traditions and the Chinese star festival, Qi Xi. The festival is usually held on July 7th, and celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). The Milky Way, a river made from stars that crosses the sky, separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year. This special day is the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar." - Wikipedia

Thanks Wikipedia. However, I should add that for this holiday you are granted a wish. I would tell you mine, but then I'd have to kill you. Seriously though, I wished for good things to come to my family (love them). Anyway for Tanabata we traveled to Kamakura. It tends to be hotspot for this holiday. It was fun I must admit. We started our day visiting the Daibutsu. A Daibutsu is a big Buddha statue. In the past it was used as a safe house during tsunamis. We were even able to go inside (actually not that exciting). After that we went to the beach for a little while. It was relaxing.

Did I mention it was big...

turtle on the beach, but not a sea turtle

tradition is not a laughing matter

The last thing we did was visit a nearby temple. It was a beautiful scene. The building design was stunning. It was like a temple you would see in a cartoon. What really made it was great day was that I had a lot of fun with my classmates. It was a nice way to take our minds off the midterm with had coming up on Friday.

just like a cartoon I think

sweet potato ice cream... so gooood
